$10 Tubs of Frozen Fundraising Cookie Dough

In its hey day frozen Cookie Dough Fundraisers were fairly predictable. Everyone sold the cookie dough in tubs and everyone sold the tubs for $10 each.

Then a few years ago some cookie dough manufacturers decided to introduce pre portioned cookie dough in boxes instead of tubs. They put little pieces of cookie dough that when cooked would make perfect one ounce cookies in a box. They gave you 48 pieces and sold the preportioed cookie dough as a convenience item.

Of course there was more to the manufacturing process so the cost to produce a box of pre portioned cookie dough was more than the cost to produce a tub of frozen cookie dough. The new cookie dough fundraisers offering boxes in place of tubs were sold for $12 instead of the $10 tub price.

Gradually, though, the $12 price point for pre portioned continued to rise and is now either $14 or $15 depending on the flavor and the brand. The old $10 tubs of cookie dough went from $10 to $12 and $13 and more depending on the brand.

Not only did the prices increase but the amount of cookie dough started to shrink. As the prices rose sales decreased. People were willing to pay $10 per cookie dough tubs and might even buy more than one. Many, though, would not pay more and certainly wouldn't consider buying more than one.

The lower price point has results in dramatically higher sales proving that there is price resistance and that prices should always be considered when choosing a fundraising idea.
